Do you know how much water an acre-foot of water
is? An acre-foot is the volume of water required to cover one acre of land
(43,560 square feet) to a depth of one foot.
An acre-foot is equal to 325,851 gallons, or approximately
enough water to support a family of five for a year.
What's Our Share?
Nevada is allocated 300,000 acre-feet of Colorado
River water under the Law of the River. As
Southern Nevada's population has grown, its water needs have increased.
Although we can stretch our allocation with return
flow credits and groundwater
use, the Water Authority also is looking at other long-term solutions
to support our growing community.
