The Mojave Desert
A desert is an area that gets less than 10 inches of rain a year. In Southern Nevada, we get about 4 inches of rain every year.

Las Vegas is a city in the Mojave Desert. We can live in the desert because we get most of our water from Lake Mead.

Desert plants get water when it rains and then they store it for when they need it. The roots and leaves of cactus plants get fat with water when it rains.
