William Andrews Clark
1839-1925
Almost 100 years ago, Montana Senator William A.
Clark came to Las Vegas. He wanted to build a railroad through the town
of Las Vegas to connect California and Utah.
The railroad brought
many people to Las Vegas. The city grew as more people came here to live.
Soon Las Vegas was given its own county.
The people decided to name their new county after Clark, since his railroad
helped Las Vegas grow.
