Walter Bracken
1870-1950
Walter Bracken came to Las Vegas in 1901. He worked for the
railroad company and helped build the new city of Las Vegas. He became
the postmaster and used the tent he lived in as the post office.
While working as postmaster, he helped plan the new
Las Vegas. He gave land to people to build churches, libraries and the
courthouse. He also helped build the city's first water system.
