Drought Facts
A drought happens when nature gives us less
rain and snow than usual.
In Southern Nevada, our drinking water comes from Lake
Mead.
Water in Lake Mead comes from the Colorado River.
Water in the Colorado River comes from snowmelt and
rain in the Rocky Mountains.
Over the last few years, there has not been enough snow
in the Rocky Mountains, so the Colorado River has not had much water to
fill Lake Mead.
That means Southern Nevada is in a drought.
Because of the drought, we need to be extra careful
with our water. Make sure you save water and tell your friends and family
to save too!
