Youth
Advisory Council 1999 - 2000
The Youth Advisory Council
members for 1999-2000 chose to spend the year focusing on the availability
of future water resources and on the water conservation public-outreach
campaign.
From April through December 1999, the teens met
approximately twice a month to analyze these issues. The
youth council studied, researched and developed the following resource
and conservation campaign recommendations:
Water Resource Recommendations
- Reallocate the Colorado River
- Explore the idea of water exchanges with Colorado River Basin states
- Continue SNWA efforts related to legalizing interstate transfers
and marketing
- Form a seven-state commission
Conservation Recommendations:
- Make television commercials more realistic and hard-hitting
- Provide more motivation for viewers to conserve by further emphasizing
that saving water equates to saving money
- Highlight other conservation methods in addition to lawn watering
- Target conservation messages to specific audiences at appropriate
times
- Use Deputy Drip only for age-appropriate audiences
- Avoid using signs that send an incomplete message
