The 2008-2009 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a group that is conscious of the imminent problems of Nevada's drought and environmental deterioration. Accordingly, they took on the objective of raising water conservation awareness and making a positive impact on their community.
On March 21, 2009, YAC hosted the second annual World Water Day Walk/Event in Las Vegas. Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) General Manager Pat Mulroy and YAC students led a walk for water through a trail created around the Henderson Events Plaza to represent the strenuous trek that women and children have to traverse each day in water-stricken countries. At the end of the walk, participants were met with a number of environmentally themed booths and entertainment. More than 2,000 residents stepped out to support global water issues at the inaugural event in 2008 at the Springs Preserve, and this event was brought into Henderson in an effort to help raise awareness throughout the valley.

For their community project, the students are partnering with the City of Henderson and the Clark County School District Partnership Program.
