Youth Advisory Council 2007-2008
The 2007-2008 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) decided to think globally and act locally. The projects of the group involve working within their schools and communities.
Realizing there was a need to assist in water conservation efforts within their own schools, the group designed signs educating the community about water conservation and how to report water waste. The signs will be mounted on school fences.
On March 22, 2008, YAC initiated and hosted the first World Water Day event to be held in Las Vegas. Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) General Manager Pat Mulroy and YAC students led a 2-mile walk for water through the trails of the Springs Preserve, where the event was hosted. More than 2,000 residents stepped out to support global water issues at the event.
Community Partners
For their community project, the students partnered with Alan Paulson from the Clark County School District, Springs Preserve and Jim Thebaut, director of “Running Dry.”
