The 2005-2006 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) decided one of the biggest challenges facing Southern Nevada is understanding its connection to water and that residents don't understand how they get water.
Community Partners
For its community project, the students partnered with Lamping Elementary School to help students learn about our water resources and conservation.
The YAC created interactive exhibits located at the William McCool Science Center. These exhibits include a set of maps to demonstrate the complexity of the river system and the various steps and processes that water goes through to get from Lake Mead to Lamping Elementary School.

The other component of the project was a working model of how water is pumped from the lake to a reservoir and then fed back to the school by gravity. This model will give younger students a hands-on opportunity to see how the water distribution system works.
Recommendations
The group recommended that the SNWA continue to use its education programs to inform residents on the attributes of Southern Nevada's water resources and to promote sustainable, water-smart choices.
The YAC also recommended that the SNWA continue to explore opportunities for collaboration and cooperation with the Clark County School District to enhance water education in all of the community's schools.
