2000-2001 MembersYouth Advisory Council 2000 - 2001
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) members for 2000-2001 addressed two topics during their one-year tenure. The first was urban runoff as it relates to the Las Vegas Wash. The second topic they addressed was the issue of water taste.

Urban Runoff
The students suggested reducing contaminated runoff at its source: neighborhoods in every part of the valley. To achieve this goal, the council urged SNWA to develop a public outreach program that would educate residents about urban runoff and its causes.

They also recommended paint recycling centers, establishing a drop-off and/or pick-up program for used oil and antifreeze and environmentally friendly car-washing methods.

Water Taste
In an informal study, the council found that the longer people have resided in Las Vegas, the less likely they are to be dissatisfied with the taste of the tap water. They suggested that taste may not be as much of an issue as once thought.

In order to accurately determine how the public feels about the options available to treat drinking water, the council recommended a statistically valid taste survey. The youth group also encouraged further consumer education to rehabilitate tap water's image.
