In this section, you can learn about some of the history of Southern Nevada. You'll read about the Native Americans and the pioneers who first discovered the Las Vegas Valley and helped it become a city.

We have lots of places to go and people to see so let's get started!

Who am I?
Who am I?I was born in Ohio but moved to Las Vegas in 1865. I turned the Old Mormon Fort into the Las Vegas Rancho.

First traces of Paiutes in the Las Vegas Valley. Rivera wanders away from the group and finds the Las Vegas Wash. The U.S. Army sends Fremont west where he finds the Las Vegas Springs.
 
Gass moves to Las Vegas and takes over the Old Mormon Fort. Helen Stewart and her family move into the Las Vegas Rancho.

Bracken moves to Las Vegas to help build the railroad.

Clark auctions off land around the railroad and turns Las Vegas into a town.
