Drought Facts
A drought is caused by nature when there
is less rain and snow than usual.
In Southern Nevada, our drinking water comes from Lake
Mead. Water in Lake Mead comes from snow in the Rocky Mountains.
There has not been enough snow in the Rocky Mountains
over the last few years, which means Southern Nevada is currently in a
drought.
This is the worst drought that local scientists have
ever recorded. The level of water in Lake Mead has dropped more than 85
feet since January 2000.
During the drought, we need to be extra careful with
our water. Conservation is always important in the Mojave
Desert, but it is even more important during the drought. Let's make
water conservation a way of life in Southern Nevada. |
