Outdoor Tips
In Southern Nevada, people use most of their drinking water outdoors in their yard. When you are water smart, you save thousands of gallons of drinking water from being used outdoors or wasted.

Car Wash Tips
  • Washing a car at home can use two to three times more water than using a Water Smart Car Wash. Use a commercial facility to save water.
    Get car wash coupons.

  • Water that flows into the street is water waste. It can't be recycled because it evaporates before it can return to Lake Mead.

  • Use a nozzle on your hose if you wash your car at home to avoid water waste.

Garden Hose Tips
  • A garden hose can use more than 10 gallons of water per minute. Put a spray nozzle on the hose to save water.

  • Use a broom to sweep the driveway or sidewalk, instead of using a hose.

  • Check your hose to make sure it doesn't have leaks. Look for little sprays of water along the hose.
Sweep instead of using the hose
Pool Tips
  • In the summer, 10,000 to 15,000 gallons of water evaporates from the average swimming pool.

  • Use a pool cover to save water. Get more pool tips.
