Bathroom
A lot of the water you use inside your home gets used in the bathroom. Learn more about the water you use and how to save water in the bathroom.

Shower Tips

Is your toilet running?

Shut off the faucet

  • Try to limit your showers to 5 minutes or less.

  • Shortening your shower time by 1 minute would save 2,000 gallons of water every year.

  • Baths use more water than showers. Take more showers than baths.

  • If you take a bath, fill the tub only half way.
Toilet Tips
  • Ask your family to install an early-closure flapper. It can save up to 1.5 gallons per flush.

  • If your toilet water keeps running or if your toilet flushes by itself sometimes, you may have a leak. Watch the video Detecting and Silencing Leaks.

  • Don't use the toilet as a trash can.
Faucet Tips
  • About 4,000 gallons of water comes out of your faucets every year.

  • Leaky faucets can waste more than a gallon of water a day.

  • Finding and fixing leaks around your home can save up to 9,000 gallons of water a year.

  • Turn the water off when brushing your teeth.

  • Fill the sink with water when you wash your face instead of letting the water run.

  • Check all faucets for leaks. Little drips can add up to gallons.
